The Yellow stage is the final step in the LTA Youth program, where children transition to playing tennis under the same conditions as adults and professional players. It is designed for juniors aged 11 and over, preparing them for a lifelong engagement with the sport.
Key features
Age group: Primarily for children and teenagers aged 11 and up.
Court size: Played on a full-size tennis court with a standard-height net, allowing players to fully experience the dimensions of the game.
Equipment:
Ball: A regular yellow tennis ball is used. This is a full-compression ball with a standard bounce and speed, identical to the ones used by professionals.
Racket: Players use full-sized, 27-inch rackets, though a slightly smaller size may be recommended if they are not yet physically ready.
Skill development: The focus shifts to refining and consolidating the skills learned in the previous stages. Juniors begin to explore and develop their unique playing style and tactics on the larger court.
Competition: At the Yellow stage, competition aligns with standard tennis rules, using match tie-break, short set, or full set scoring. The program supports progression to higher levels of competitive play, including LTA Ratings and Rankings.
Pathway: By mastering the Yellow stage, children become well-rounded tennis players with a comprehensive understanding of the sport, equipped to continue playing recreationally or competitively into adulthood
